libraries and museums technology working group
Jerome was drawn to the Immersive Education Initiative and helped establish the Library Technology Working Group in 2008 out of concern that most academic libraries do not have enough collaborative workspace where students can work together on research projects and shared class assignments. Further, he saw potential for immersive library applications to support distance education, international education, Massive Online Open Course student and faculty communication, and other challenges arising from the limitations of physical study and research spaces. Jerome has co-chaired LIB.TWG since its inception, and in 2012, to take account of immersive museum interests, the working group became the Libraries and Museums Technology Working Group. The focus of the LAM.TWG is to provide a specification and framework for developing platform support, products, and services for immersive libraries and museums–3D virtual libraries and museums. LAM.TWG also addresses best practices for providing and for evaluating virtual world library and museum services.
